Young tennis star Qinwen Zheng has become the latest Chinese player to join the top-10 list in the WTA ranking.
The 21-year-old is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated young players currently playing in the women’s singles category. She had an impressive outing in the 2023 season as well where she ended up playing in the quarterfinal of the US Open where she lost to the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Zheng lived up to the hype as she booked her place in the semifinal of the Australian Open after defeating Anna Kalinskaya in the last-eight clash of the mega-event with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
That performance ended up rewarding Zheng who has become the youngest player from China and the second overall after Li Na to book her place in the top-10 of the WTA ranking.

Zheng will face Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in the semifinal of the mega-event. It will be the first time when both players will face off and therefore, it is likely to be a feisty contest. Yastremska booked her place in the semifinal of the Australian Open after beating the Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
