A solid return to the WTA Tour has ended for Eugenie Bouchard who was beaten in the quarter-final in Chennai by Nadia Podoroska 6-1 4-6 2-6.
It was a very competitive match and while Bouchard was favoured in this one, the Argentine simply proved more sturdy. Podoroska is a former French Open semi-finalist so she knows how to play tennis and she showed it here. Bouchard actually took the opening set fairly easily smashing Podoroska 6-1 as the Argentine needed time to get warmed up.
Once she did it was a different story plus Bouchard dealt with some physical discomfort that required a medical timeout. The Canadian still had decent chances in this one, especially on the second serve but wasted too many chances.
6-4 was the score for Podoroska in the second set with an early 3-0 lead for the Argentinian as well. The match was suspended for about an hour due to bad weather but it continued after that. The Argentine held her cool and finished off the match 6-2.
Not strong enough from the baseline from Bouchard in the end. Still, a quarterfinal and some valuable points were earned.
