It wasn't perfect by Eugenie Bouchard but it was damn good as the Canadian battled past Kayla Day in two sets 7-5 6-3.
The first set started off nicely for both players as they were testing out the waters. Neither risked too much and neither allowed too much on serve either. It was just a nice game-by-game flow with Day being the one that break it wide open.
She broke for the 5-4 lead positioning herself in a great spot to try and win the opening set but Bouchard countered with ferocity breaking back and making it 5-5. Eventually, Bouchard would you see the collapse of Day to escape with the first set 7-5 and it was truly a superb finish for her.
It made things much easier moving forward as she was confident in what she was doing and it worked once again. She took a 3-1 lead but allowed Day to fight back and make it 3-3 but it was the last good thing the American would do in this match as Bouchard went on to win the match 6-3.
A good start for the Canadian in what will be the last big event she will play this year.
