Chris Evert feels like
Iga Swiatek is a good leader for the WTA due to her long history of speaking out about topics that are important such as mental health.
Swiatek has been a very open tennis player in her career talking about many things publicly. She spoke about her own mental health journey which is admirable as it's still a topic not many are willing to talk about. She's also been quite vocal about her stance on the war in Ukraine even forcing the hand of the WTA to react during the Potapova incident.
Chris Evert thinks that makes her a very good leader for the WTA:
“She’s a leader that doesn’t yell at the top of a mountain. She’s more soft-spoken. Yet when Iga speaks, people will listen.”
Evert's former colleague Pam Shriver added her perspective on her tennis:
“You can’t find anyone who moves better, who has a better forehand, and who’s been mentally tougher in the last 14 months than Iga. She’s a little bit of a throwback, old-school No. 1 player.”
