Cori Gauff kicked off her clay season with a very good win over Ons Jabeur at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.

After having a solid showing in New York Cori Gauff travelled to Europe to take part in the clay season. Her first match was a very difficult one, against a very tough opponent. It took some time, almost 90 minutes but the American passed the test with a straight-sets victory over Jabeur.
It was a shaky start for Gauff as she lost the first game in the match, a game in which she served. A couple of minutes later she found herself down 2-0 but she managed to fight back immediately to make it 2-2. Jabeur responded with a mini-run of her own to make it 4-2. From there on it was all Gauff who went on to win the next four games to win the 1st set with 6-4.
The 2nd set went a bit easier for Gauff as she never trailed in it but there was still quite of bit interesting development in it. Midway through the set, we witnessed a series of 5 games where the serving player lost the game. In all of that madness, it was Gauff who emerged as the better player with a 5-3 lead. That lead turned to a 6-3 2nd set victory moments later to seal the match.
