We have an #AusOpen champ on the grounds. Welcome to Atlanta, @SofiaKenin!
Sofia Kenin stood on a tennis court for the first time in four months last night in Atlanta taking on Coco Gauff in Atlanta.
The match itself did not go that well for her as she lost 6-1 6-2 to Gauff but the American was thankful to be on the court again despite playing very poor tennis. The American is a grand slam champion having won the Australian Open a couple of years ago and she also played in the French Open final as well. Speaking after the exhibition she said:
“Grateful. I’m just thankful for a lot of things… I was in a cast (in April) and now I’m playing here. I’m just thankful.”
She dealt with a severe injury having last played at Indian Wells losing early in the event. Her ranking dropped significantly to number 419 which is a long way away from her peak ranking of number 4.
