Camila Giorgi Montreal 2021
Camila Giorgi advanced to the National Bank Open Montreal final with a 2-1 win over Jessica Pegula.
The win was the biggest win of her career allowing her to reach her first WTA 1000 final. Giorgio will fight for the biggest trophy of her career today which would be her 3rd career title. The 29-year old was very happy upon the conclusion of the match saying:
"I'm very happy, because actually today was, I think, a great match, even if the second set maybe I didn't play my game. I lost a little bit of the rhythm. But then I came back and was, I think, a third set, amazing."
It was a great match by Giorgi who composed herself after losing the 2nd set to dominate in the 3rd and win it with 6-1. This emergence of Giorgi has been advertised all season long with the Italian scoring some impressive victories. Things never quite fell into place completely until this week.
On that she said:
"I think now I'm playing better. I know better how to choose the shots. When I need a little bit to slow down [or] accelerate. It's more variation in my game, I think. This is very important."
In the final, she will face a player she is very familiar with. Giorgi and Pliskova played recently in the Tokyo Olympics and the Italian was able to win that match comfortably 6-4 6-2. Asked about the upcoming final she said:
"I think it's going to be another great match. I'm just going to focus on my game, like I do as usual, then we see. It's going to be a good match."
