Simona Halep was quick in her first match at the Australian Open winning in straight sets and after the match, she revealed strong emotions about seeing a crowd.
It took about an hour for Simona Halep to win her Australian Open opener and to advance to the 2nd round. Some of that high energy she displayed came thanks to seeing fans again which is something that made her emotional prior to the match. On that she said:
"I was very emotional before the match, I have to admit, it's always nice to have people around and feel the energy from them. I missed it so much last year and I'm really happy to have the chance to play with the people."
It was evident from the start that the Romanian enjoyed being on the court and she said as much:
"Very nice atmosphere. Good vibe. I was really happy to be back on court. Really happy also that I could win the match."
Her next opponent is another Australian in Tomljanovic, albeit a much better player than Cabrera. Asked about that upcoming match she said:
"It's going to be a tough battle. I expect a tough match because I played against her before. She is a good player but I will focus on myself like I do every time."
She concluded the interview with a smile by saying:
“I like to be here, so I like to play Australians. You can check out the full press conference below.
