Holger Rune downs Medvedev for the Monte-Carlo semi-final

Holger Rune played a really strong match to take down a tired Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-4 booking the Monte-Carlo Masters semi-final.

Medvedev finished his match last night just short of midnight and he wasn't able to recover well in time for this one. The Russian was a bit slow at times unable to really track down the balls the way he likes to. Medvedev was on the court for almost three hours last night too which certainly didn't help.

Rune jumped out to an early lead in the first set and worked really hard to keep the lead and win the first set. He managed to with the final score being 6-3. It was quite competitive but Rune simply chose his spot a bit better attacking with the serve at times and it proved enough. The second set was quite similar but Rune was even sharper in this one.

He had 11 winners compared to Medvedev's 8 and that shot-making ultimately made all the difference in the end. Medvedev was frustrated because he was not able to match the Dane at all and half of that is mostly due to Rune fitting better on a clay court than Medvedev.
