Ashleigh Barty is nominated for the Newcombe Award for the 4th time and she feels honoured to be nominated.
The nomination is a significant one as Barty has a chance to win the award for a record 4th time. Nobody ever won it four times before but if Barty wins it this year it will be a new record. Obviously, the nomination means a lot to Barty who reacted to it by saying how honoured she feels:
“I feel honoured to be nominated. I’m proud of the year my team and I have had and the work we put in. To be recognised by the Australian tennis community with this nomination is special”.
The nomination comes after Barty had a career year winning several big trophies including the Wimbledon which is the biggest triumph of her career. It was a longtime dream of hers as well so it was a brilliant day for Barty and Australian tennis in general. Speaking to tennis Australia she admitted that ending the season early did her good and she felt rested.
“I did feel rested until preseason started a few weeks ago. This week I'm tired. I’ve been working hard on and off the court, doing everything I possibly can to get ready for January. The first few weeks of preseason are always tough physically."
