Ukraine’s tennis player Elina Svitolina has revealed that she is excited to face the former world number one Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the first round of the WTA event in Auckland.
The 2024 season is finally underway with a number of competitions starting in the Australian continent. One of them is the ASB Classic which will be played in the New Zealand city of Auckland.
In the first round, the fans will witness a mouthwatering contest between Svitolina and Wozniacki. Talking about it, the 29-year-old expressed her excitement about facing the former world number one after a gap of more than five years.
“It’s going to be a tough one,” she said. “But I’m really looking forward to this match. When I found out that Caroline was coming back, I always wanted to play against her. It’s going to be an exciting one.”
Wozniacki made a return to tennis after a gap of more than three years in 2023. However, that return did not go as planned as the 33-year-old did not enjoy a good season and hardly secured any notable victories.
On the other hand, Svitolina had a more than decent time on the court where she won one WTA title and also played in the quarterfinal and the semifinal of the Grand Slam.
