The former world number one
Venus Williams has revealed that
she was ‘relentless’ in pursuing lost luggage ahead of the Western & Southern
Cincinnati Open.
The 43-year-old defeated Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5 to book her spot in the round of 32.
While talking to the media during the competition, Venus
revealed that she had a hard time after losing the luggage just before the
competition but stated that now she is happy after finding her lost bags.
"I finally did. I called every hour, like, I’d get off
the phone and then I’d call right back and speak to another agent,” she said. “I’m
relentless. I needed my bags, and it was days of calling. But I have my clothes
now. I’m grateful.
"The day I played my match was the craziest day ever in
terms of preparation. Like, there was none. I was running to buy clothes, and,
you know, just all over the place. It was nuts.”
Venus, who is a five-time Grand Slam winner — the last of
which came in Wimbledon more than 15 years back in 2008, will play her second-round fixture at the competition on Wednesday.
