Mirra
Andreeva reflects on her
Olympic Games experience in
Daria Kasatkina's blog.
The teenager won the silver medal in women's doubles alongside Diana Shnaider,
although she didn't have the same luck in singles or mixed doubles (with Daniil
Medvedev).
Andreeva
seemed like a strong medal contender in singles after reaching the semifinals
at Roland Garros just weeks before. However, she suffered a first-round defeat
to Magda Linette. In mixed doubles with Medvedev, they also failed to advance
after losing to Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani.
Nevertheless,
the teenager found an unexpected path to the final in women's doubles with
Diana Shnaider, securing a silver medal after losing to the Italian duo of
Errani and Paolini.
In the
latest video of "What the Vlog," the YouTube channel of Kasatkina and
her girlfriend, figure skater Natalia Zabiiako, the players trained together,
and 'Dasha' interviewed Andreeva, asking her about her week at the Olympics.
Kasatkina had qualified but declined to participate in Paris 2024.
Kasatkina: “The only
medal that will be remembered, well done really,” the former world No. 8 joked. “How did you
like the Olympics in general?”
Andreeva:
“I don’t know if anyone will see this, but to be honest, I expected more (about
the organization).”
Kasatkina:
“It’s normal, it’s just that we tennis players are also so spoiled,” she responded.
Andreeva:
“I just thought that everything would be like at Roland Garros, but I arrived
and there’s only a box of apples to eat. And that’s it. And Cola in the
fridge,” the Russian player said. “Of course, I took the Cola right away, but that was
all for food. I can’t even imagine what was going on in my stomach.”
While
driving a golf cart after training, Kasatkina asked her compatriot what it was
like to live in the Olympic Village, although Andreeva mentioned that she
stayed in a hotel: “But I went there, by the way, I liked it, next time I would
stay there.”
Kasatkina:
“On cardboard beds,” Kasatkina joked.
Andreeva:
“But I didn’t sit on the beds, I didn’t sleep or sit, I didn’t test it.”
Kasatkina
asked about her mixed doubles experience with Medvedev: “I was just watching;
you brought the result,” the 26-year-old Russian said. “At least you returned
the serve.”
Andreeva:
“Oh, thank God, imagine if I couldn’t return either. To be honest, I expected
the worst, but overall I can say that I played not badly,” the teenager
mentioned and then clarified that it wasn’t her first mixed
doubles experience: “We played with him (Medvedev) against Badosa and Tsitsipas
at an exhibition tournament. We lost 7-6, but at least it was 6 and not 1.”
Finally,
Andreeva concluded: “I wasn’t thrilled, but it wasn’t bad,” as they entered the
hotel in Cincinnati.
The latest
episode of "What the Vlog" was released today. Andreeva isn’t the
only WTA star who spoke in the latest episode. Paula Badosa, Anastasia
Potapova, and Ons Jabeur were among the stars who joined Kasatkina, giving a
glimpse behind the scenes of life on tour.
