Great Britain Team Captain Anne Kothavong hopes to have
Emma Raducanu available next time for the
Billie Jean King Cup despite a snub from the Brit.
Raducanu won't play for Great Britain in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup matches for Great Britain despite coming back on Tour just a few days later in Stuttgart. It was a decision that earned her a lot of criticism back home in the UK but Keothavong still hopes to have Raducanu available in the future.
Asked about Raducanu ahead of the matches, the captain said:
“I think we all know when this tie was going to be played and where she is now. But
it’s irrelevant. We hope she makes herself available for future ties. I
know she wants to be part of this team. It was just, on this occasion,
it wasn’t the right timing for her.”
Everybody is aware that Raducanu could have player for Great Britain but she chose not to. Even so, Keothavong in hopeful that the team will put in a good performance after a promising outing last year in Glasgow:
“I’m really excited that this team have been able to come together
again. We created so many happy memories that week we
had in Glasgow and we’ve got that shared experience together. The nominations had to be made early on in March. This is a team
that I feel have a bond and have performed many times in this
competition in the past, certainly our singles players."
