Ashleigh Barty defeated Danielle Collins in the semifinals at the 2020 Adelaide International as she seeks the first title on the home soil.
After losing the first set, Barty knew she has to improve in 2nd and 3rd and that is also what she explained after the match. Previously, Barty also spoke about
why she likes to play one more tournament ahead of the Australian Open and so she commented also on the home fans in Adelaide.
"I think I worked hard tonight, and we got the result that we're after. Danielle has the ability to take the match out of your hands a little bit. She was on top of the rallies and inside the court, and I think I was able to shift court position a lot better in the second set, make a lot more balls, particularly when I was defending. The third was a tussle but I think that's what you kind of expect in big matches like that."
"Obviously, it was an exceptional crowd out there. You know, it was probably my first real taste of obviously some adrenaline late in matches. I think that's what we're after is to try to practice those things as best that we can. I felt like I did what I wanted to do well tonight and got over the line in the end."
Barty also spoke about her unsuccess in the previous two finals in Australia and hopes to finally win on the home soil. She also spoke about her opponent, only
19-years-old Dayana Yastremska.
"Hopefully, it's third time lucky at home for me, I think. It's about putting yourself out there each week, trying to bring the best that you can. I'm looking forward to the match tomorrow, obviously. In the last two years, I have been close, and agonizingly close last year, but the two finals I lost, I played great tennis. I lost to quality opponents. Dayana is an exceptional ball-striker, as well. She wants to be inside the court. She craves that court position and thrives when she's ahead. "
