Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek was in devastating form during her win over former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka at the Dubai Duty Free Championships on Tuesday, cementing her spot in the history books as she advanced to the round of 16.
The reigning Roland Garros champion scored an emphatic 6-0 6-2 win over the two-time Grand Slam champion. Swiatek needed just over an hour to sweep past her Belarusian opponent, and looks set to put her disappointing loss at last week's Qatar Open behind her.
Following the clinical win over Azarenka, Swiatek added another name to the list of players she has a 6-0 set victory over at WTA 1000 tournaments. This puts her at 28 bagel sets recorded at these events, ever since their addition to the tour in 2009.
Currently sitting at fourth on that list, Swiatek is surpassed by only a handful of players. Coincidentally, Victoria Azarenka is at the top of the list, having won 33 sets with a 6-0 scoreline since the start of WTA 1000 events in 2009. Danish star Caroline Wozniacki comes in second with 29 sets won, whereas the recently retired Simona Halep is hanging onto third place with 28 sets won by that infamous scoreline. However, based on Swiatek's age and form, it is likely that the former World No.1 will top the list before the end of her distinguished career.
