Players to win 4 WTA 1000s in a season in the last 20 years: 2003 Henin 2013 S. Williams (5 titles) 2022 Swiatek (4 of first 5 with more to play)
Iga Swiatek has won four WTA 1000 events this season and by doing so she became only the 3rd player to ever do it in the past 20 years.
Not only that, she is now closer to breaking a record Serena Williams is holding as the American won 5 WTA 1000 trophies in one year. That record looked like it would never be broken but considering the level, Swiatek has shown this year it's not unthinkable for the Polish player to equal it at worst. She only needs one more to do that.
Prior to Swiatek winning 4 Premier titles in one year only Serena (won 5 that year) and Justin Henin had done in the past 20 years. Incredible company for the Polish player but she could be on top alone by the end of the year. The next WTA 1000 event is in August in Cincinnati and Toronto. The two scheduled in China won't take place after getting cancelled due to the Peng Shuai situation.
If Swiatek wins one more she will equal Serena. If she wins both she will break the record and become the only player to win 6 in one year.
