Iga Swiatek has now won 26 matches in a row as the Polish player battled past Bianca Andreescu in two diametrically different sets 7-6(2) 6-0.
It was widely expected that Andreescu will properly challenge Swiatek and she did for a whole set. The first set was exciting and Swiatek had some trouble with Andreescu who was hitting the ball very cleanly. The Polish player never quite found her best rhythm and she missed more than usual. It was quite evident several times in the opening set.
She trailed 0-2 but battled back to 2-2. She then had a lead which she gave away at the worst possible moment at 5-4 when serving for the set. She did not panic and went on to outplay Andreescu easily in the tiebreak. The Canadian was visibly shaken after dropping the first set and that was the last of her good tennis for the day.
In the 2nd set Swiatek completely took over proving herself as truly the best player in the world and smashing her opponent. Andreescu could not do anything in the set as Swiatek continued to blast winners. First, it was 2-0, then 4-0 and then 6-0. Another superb performance and another win for the undisputed number one. he is well on her way to winning the event again.
