Britain’s young tennis star
Emma Raducanu has revealed that she
is in a very ‘good spot’ ahead of
Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam of the
year is set to begin on Monday, and players from all over the world will
participate to showcase their talent at the highest level and secure the
ultimate prize.
Raducanu was once regarded as the next big thing, especially
when she lifted the US Open title at the age of 18 in 2021. She defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. The victory was more than just special, as the Toronto-born star started
the competition through the qualifying round.
Since that triumph, the Toronto-born star has struggled to maintain
her form and fitness. She returned to the court earlier this year after spending nearly 12 months on the sidelines and, since then, has produced some good results on the court. Raducanu recently took part in
Eastbourne International, where her journey finally ended. She lost in the quarterfinal to
Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Despite that exit, Raducanu was largely pleased with her performance. She registered her first win over a top-10 player in the world and
defeated America’s Jessica Pegula in the second round with a score of 4-6, 7-6,
7-5. Talking to the media about her performance, the 21-year-old stated that
she does not feel tired after participating in the mega-event and feels in a ‘good spot’ ahead of the third major competition this year.
“I wasn’t tired at all. I was feeling really good,” she
said. “I think I just dealt with the circumstances badly. Yeah, I was very
inflexible in my approach. That’s my honest reflection of the match. But
physically, I’m in a really good spot. I’m fine. I just need to learn to be more
willing to adapt. I hadn’t really played many matches in that level of wind.”
