Maja Chwalinska's historic and unbelievable run to the final of the
French Open is a very heartwarming story. The qualifier is one win away from clinching one of the most improbable Grand Slam titles ever won, but still does not have any sponsors despite banking an eye-watering $1,624,000.
The Pole's tennis career has had numerous problems and setbacks throughout it. Mental health difficulties led to her having a break from the sport in 2021 before surgery on her knee kept her out for even longer.
However, she has proven to the world that she is more than a capable tennis player. She is only the second qualifier to reach the final of a
Grand Slam, following in the footsteps of Emma Raducanu. While the Brit went on to win it, Chwalinska will be very much hoping to do the same.
It will most certainly not be an easy match. Mirra Andreeva has questionably been the best player on clay on 2026. The other one in this category, Marta Kostyuk, was wiped aside 6-1, 6-3 in a dominant
semi-final showing. Chwalinska will hope that her game will disrupt the rhythm of Andreeva and give her that all-important edge she needs on court that will get her over the line.
Different outfits due to lack of sponsors
Coming into the tournament as the world number 114, Chwalinska did not have the luxuries of many of the top players. She has no sponsors which leads her to wear whatever she likes on court. This caught the eye of one journalist who queried why she kept changing from round to round.
“I mean, there is no story, really. I’m not sponsored, so I guess that’s the story," she said. “I mean, for now, I’m playing, so I’m very grateful for the Oshee company to help me to cover my hotel expenses these three weeks now. But other than that, no, I’m just focusing on tennis, and the rest I guess will come after the tournament.”
While she was solely focused on her tennis, a lot of support came in from fans across the world who were cheering on the underdog. Her posts are getting a lot of positive attention and comments. “She will be now. Great marketing. lol,” one read. "Amazing! History is being written by YOU," another wrote.
Maja Chwalinska was not sponsored going into Roland Garros 2026
“Girl about to cash in. This is the feel good story of the year," one user stated, pinpointing the luxury of earning a tremendous amount of money that she can use to continue building her tennis community and given her financial security. Another added: “I hope she’ll get lots of sponsorships after this.”
That is going to be very likely. Now up 93 places in the rankings thanks to her majestic run, Chwalinska will be the
world number 21 following the end of this tournament. She will have loads of sponsors wanting to get her on board, no less than in her native country of Poland.
Going back to Raducanu, she was hinted to have made millions following the Grand Slam triumph at Flushing Meadows. Chwalinska could also follow in her footsteps, especially if she wins the tournament, with there a large number of sponsors possibly to choose from. She will not have to worry about choosing what to wear in competitions from now.
