The USA Fed Cup team isn't short of quality as it includes players such as Serena Williams, Sofia Kenin and talented yougster Coco guaff.
And Williams said the USA has fielded a great team in the qualifying tie against Latvia. Kenin and Williams played for their countries and both players secured wins for their country.
Kenin won her opening match against Latvia’s No.41-ranked Anastasija Sevastova, winning 6-2 6-2. And Williams overcame Jelena Ostapenko 7-6(4) 7-6(3) in a tightly contested match.
The duo played on home soil and Williams is pleased with the fun atmosphere.
“It’s such a great team and we got off to a great start,’’ Serena said. “It’s such a great atmosphere. And I think we worked really hard. It was really fun.”
Kenin's a little tired after her participation in the Australian Open where she won her first Grand Slam. But she's still very happy to participate in the Fed Cup.
“It's been a long journey. It wasn’t easy,” Kenin said. “But I was super happy to come here and play with the team. Sleep-wise was, of course, difficult. I’m used to the time zone. I feel great. Felt great to play.”
