While the tennis world has been fixated on Wimbledon this past week, another huge event has occurred over in the United States. Pop star Taylor Swift officially tied the knot at the Madison Square Gardens in New York with NFL talent Travis Kelce. A lot of buzz has been around this event with members of the tennis world also keeping tabs. Jessica Pegula has been one of them, although not at the same rate as others as the Wimbledon quarter-finalist reacts to the special occasion.
Over the past few years, Swift has broken out as one of the most famous singers and celebrities in the world, regularly selling out the biggest stadiums while amassing a huge fan base known as 'Swifties' who follow her every move with huge anticipation.
This has been the case in recent times with New York the centre of attention as she and her partner, Kelce, got married in front of a huge audience. The event was so big that roads had to be shut down, and parts of New York were closed off, showcasing the scale of the event.

Reacting to Swift's wedding

Tennis is soon to head to the Big Apple with the US Open soon set to be played out. Pegula, who reached the final back in 2024, admitted that she was not the biggest Swift fan. However, she and some of her tennis compatriots had been following the latest updates, singling out Desirae Krawczyk as an avid fan.
When asked if she was following the wedding news, she answered: "A little bit. Des is the big Taylor Swift fan. The rest of us, we like listening to her music, but we're not quite like her. It's been a little bit of a topic because nobody knew what was happening with it."
She knew that they were officially wed. "Oh, we heard she's already married," she continued. "We heard that they put the sign out on MSG. Then you obviously started seeing some of the pictures coming out. Adam Sandler officiated the wedding. We've been keeping up on it a little bit."
The questions kept coming in about this topic with it centring around the scale. While admitting it was 'crazy,' Pegula conceded to the fact that Swift is just that big of a global celebrity. "It's crazy. But it's Taylor Swift. I don't expect anything less than doing something different. Not totally surprising. But yeah, interesting. I don't know."

Pegula senses Grand Slam glory

Pegula's full focus will be on tennis, and she is in a great position to challenge for her first ever Grand Slam title. She is the highest ranked player left in the tournament following huge upsets recently occurring to Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek.
There has been no such trouble for Pegula, although she was pushed in her most recent match. Acknowledging that grass was not her favourite surface, she has reached three WTA 500 finals on the surface, all coming in the last three years. Following titles in Berlin and Bad Homburg, she could not repeat that success this year with Linda Noskova defeating her in Bad Homburg.
This was good preparation for Wimbledon, and since then she has continued to look good on court. She came through the opening tie against Darja Vidmanova in straight sets before taking down a brace of Spaniards. After surviving four set points on the spin in the first set, she went on to comfortably dispose of Sara Sorribes Tormo before dropping just four games against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. An all-American encounter against Iva Jovic was a tense one. The 18-year-old won the opening set but once Pegula raised the levels, there was only one way this was going.
She is into a second Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon, a first since 2023, and has another tough test in the form of Coco Gauff. They are the two highest ranked players remaining with the winner possibly being the favourite for glory at SW19.
