American tennis star Amanda Anisimova has stated that she has no regret about taking a break from the sport to deal with mental health issues.
The 22-year-old took a break from professional tennis in April 2022, citing issues with her mental health. Anisimova, who has now returned to the court and took part in the ASB Classic in Auckland, was quoted in a report where she stated optimism of inspiring to deal with mental struggles.
“I was happy that I was able to be honest about the reason why I was stepping away,” she said. “Just being vulnerable about it [was] kind of freeing and takes a little bit of weight off my shoulders and if I can help other people in knowing that they are not the only ones struggling, they are not alone in it.
“It was really good to post about it and give some insight into mental health and that it is really important and taking care of yourself always comes first.”
Anisimova, who played in the semifinal of the French Open in 2019, saw her journey in the competition cut short as she was knocked out after losing the second-round tie to Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
