Aryna Sabalenka once again had a rough going early in her match against Wang losing the opening set 1-6 but rallied the next two with 6-4 6-2.
Sabalenka struggled with her serve a lot hitting 19 double faults in total but she was able to overcome that by telling herself that she had enough in her arsenal to win the match without the serve. She also praised her opponent for playing very hard from the start:
"She hit really hard and served really well… It's tough to play
against her. I tried to stay as low as I can and just put the ball back.
Make it simple. I already have a lot of experience playing without the serve and I
just kept telling myself 'you have enough shots to still win the match
even if you cannot serve' so I think this kind of mentality helped me
stay in the game and actually helped me find my serve."
For Sabalenka the serving woes are starting to be an issue and she will need to find a way to solve them before she plays somebody more experienced than Wang. If she continues to struggle to serve she will run into trouble against more experienced and better tennis players and that' won't be good enough for Sabalenka who is chasing her first grand slam title.
