Belarus’ tennis star
Victoria Azarenka stated that she wanted
to join the crowd in dancing during the changeover.
The 34-year-old defeated Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in
the round of 16 of the Guadalajara Open in straight sets with a score of 6-2,
6-1.
Azarenka, during her post-match interview, stated jokingly
that she wanted to join the crowd in dancing but had to stay focused as there was
a match going on.
"The music was playing and the people were dancing and
I just wanted to get up and dance with people but I have to stay focused
because I still had a match to play. But I was just like, 'Can we get some
music so I can dance a little bit with everybody'," she said.
Azarenka is now set to face off against France’s Caroline Garcia in
the quarterfinal of the competition on Friday.
The Minsk-born will be hoping to continue her winning run in the competition after having a rather disappointing end to her season
despite starting promisingly in the Australian Open where she suffered a defeat
in the semifinal to Elena Rybakina with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
In the recently concluded US Open, Azarenka was knocked out from
the second round after losing to China’s Zhu Lin in straight sets with a score
of 6-3, 6-3.
