After the USA led 2-0 after the first day probably nobody raised any doubts about the fact that they will advance. However, neither Kenin nor Williams managed to win their singles matches on day 2 and so doubles needed to decide.
In doubles, Latvian heroes from the second day, Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova teamed up to face 2020 Australian Open champion and runner-up. Kenin triumphed in singles and Mattek-Sands lost with Jamie Murray in mixed doubles final.
After experiencing difficulties earlier on day 2, the US players did not let this match slip out of their hands anymore. They kept a high level of the first service hitting 82% of balls in and winning 84% of them. Throughout the match, Kenin & Mattek-Sands did not face a single breakpoint. However, they had 13 opportunities to break their opponents and converted 4 of those.
That led them to a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 victory. The team of USA became the last country to qualify for the 2020 Fed Cup Finals in Budapest. They will join Hungary, Australia, France, and the Czech Republic who did not have to play qualifiers. And other 7 qualified countries, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Belarus and Russia.
