It was a family affair on Tuesday at the National Bank Open (Rogers Cup), as
Leylah Fernandez partnered with her sister Bianca Jolie to win their opening round match in front of a home crowd.
The Canadian duo scored a 6-4 6-1 victory over the pairing of Sara Sorribes Tormo and Kirsten Flipkens, with the Fernandez siblings looking comfortable in front of the raucous crowd.
The sisters were unstoppable on serve, saving all break points faced via seamless communication and teamwork. There was little their opponents could do to stop the smiling duo, who broke serve on seven occasions.
Although Bianca did not qualify for the singles main draw due to her ranking, the sister act has been a pleasant surprise in the doubles field. Up next are the eight-seeded team of Andreja Klepac and Alexa Guarachi.
