Maria Sakkari pledges support to Nottingham Forest next season

Maria Sakkari is currently in Nottingham to play at the WTA 250 event there but she is also a keen football fan with a newfound love for Nottingham Forest.

She eased past Colombian player Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in straight sets to set up a clash with Canadian Rebecca Marino. And speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham Sakkari spoke about the famous local football club:

"Nottingham Forest. They’re owned by a Greek person who owns my team in Greece, Olympiacos. It’s a great connection and I will be supporting them next season."

As explained above Sakkari is a keen Olympiacos fan and the Greek champions are also owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

She continued:

“I’m excited because we have a lot of history in Greece but obviously the Premier League is different. I was happy and excited for them when I saw that they qualified and they’re in the Premier League now.”

The team earner promotion to the Premier League after a long time.
