Maria Sakkari played another long match but once again she was able to survive and keep going after a win over Zanevska 2-6 6-4 6-4.
It was another match where Sakkari started off slowly and she needed a long time finally get back into the swing of things. As always she complicated the match quite a bit even when things are going well for her and she needed to spend well over two hours to win this one.
Zanevska is a good clay and she showed it early in the match. The Belgian outplayed the Greek quite a bit hitting the ball really well en route to the 6-2 opening set finish. In the second set, it was the Sakkari show as she was able to jump out to a 5-2 lead.
She did complicate things quite a bit by losing one of those double breaks but finished it off 6-4. That good momentum allowed her to take an early break in the second set 1-0. She then completely lost the plot losing three games in a row and trailing 1-3.
She battled back and made it 3-3 eventually breaking Zanevska once more when the Belgian double-faulted on break point. Sakkari complicated things some more in the final game of the match. She wasted three match points and then saved a break point to finally convert the 4th match point.
