Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova, Naomi Osaka and Venus Williams are the names featured at the 2020 Brisbane International start list. Now, former world number one from Russia joins the field.
Sharapova played her last WTA match at the 2019 US Open where she lost to Serena Williams in the first round. Recently, Sharapova withdrew from the 2019 Hawaii Open where she was set to play Misaki Doi in the first round.
In a video deticated for the Brisbane Tennis, Sharapova said: "Brisbane, I've missed you. I am so excited to be starting off my year 2020 at your tournament, in your city. I missed the event and I am looking forward to seeing everyone in just a few days."
