The promising 21-year old McNally had no problems beating Sam Stosur in front of her home crowd to reach the 2nd round

Caty McNally had no troubles defeating Samantha Stosur in front of her own crowd in the 1st round. In the early stages of the match, McNally took a commanding lead. Stosur had her chance but failed to convert any of the six break balls she had. McNally was brilliant on her 1st serve which helped her secure the 1st set with 6-1.
The second set saw a more fierce battle where McNally once again jumped out to an early lead. Stosur was able to battle back tying the score at 4-4 before the young American stepped up her game. Stosur simply couldn't hang on and she surrendered the second break ball which was, in fact, a match ball for McNally.
It was the 20th career appearance for Samantha Stosur at the Australian Open but she couldn't overcome to youth and energy of Caty. She continues her good run as she had to go through qualifying first. Stay with us daily and find out how far she will go.
