Andy Murray predicted a huge career for Caroline Garcia back in 2011 claiming she'll be number one day and he's not far off.
Garcia was 18 years old in 2011 when Andy Murray tweeted something that became quite relevant after yesterday. Yesterday, 29-year-old Garcia won the WTA Finals by beating Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. The victory allowed her to return to number four overall which is the highest she's ever been ranked.
The first time Garcia was ranked 4th was in 2018 when she won back-to-back WTA 1000 trophies. She's now back at number 4 and the thing Murray said in 2011 was:
"The girl Sharapova is playing is going to be number one in the world one day caroline garcia, what a player u heard it here first."
Nobody touted Garcia as a huge talent back then but he was right that she was going to build a huge career. She didn't make it to number one yet but there is plenty of time for her. She did plenty of other things do and we'll list them below:
#4 in singles (twice, four years apart) and #2 in doubles.
Three 1000-level singles titles.
YEC champ in singles.
Three or more singles titles on each surface.
Two slam wins in doubles.
Fed Cup champ.
