Ostapenko loses financial backing from Latvian government for stunning reason

Jelena Ostapenko has lost her financial backing due to a reason she can't control and it's left tennis fans furious because it's a pretty crazy reason.

Ostapenko won't be getting financial backing from the country anymore as she along with other tennis colleagues and two cyclists have been denied their march pay. The reason is pretty simple, they are competing in competitions that allows Russians and Belarussians to compete as well. Ostapenko, as part of the WTA will be denied her payment because she's playing the same events as players from those countries.

Obviously, it's not something she can control but she will only get financial backing if she plays in the Billie Jean King Cup because that even has banned players from those countries.

"Welcome to my country. Where your top tennis player who always expresses how proud she is to represent the country, loves it puts it on the damn map no longer gets any financial support from the country because she competes in competitions where Russian/Belarusian players are Yea."
