Renown Coach
Patrick Mouratoglou has been in the coaching corner of
Serena Williams since 2012, but it appears the pair may be on the verge of parting ways.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Mouratoglou has removed the words 'Serena Williams' coach' from his Instagram, a feature that has been on display since the duo started working together. This has led to the assumption that Williams and Mouratoglou could be parting ways, or have already done so and have yet to make it official.
The 40-year has old Williams has been on a quest to equal Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam singles titles, and has not won a Major since triumphing at the 2017 Australian Open. She has not played a competitive match since she suffered an injury in the first round at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, which caused her to withdraw from the event.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion withdrew from this year's Australian Open, citing the need for more time to recover and be physically prepared for her return to the tour. If there is any validity to Mouratoglou's actions on Instagram, then he has either been let go from Williams' coaching camp or the WTA legend has informed him of her plans to hang up her racket. Mouratoglou has been instrumental in the WTA legend's success in the later half of her career, and a lot of questions will need to be answered over the next few days.
