Iga Swiatek gifted her psychologist a pair of Roger Federer's On sneakers for her birthday.
The World No. 2 recently completed a reassuring week on the WTA Tour. After losing the No. 1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open and with the season drawing to a close, Swiatek showcased her top form at the last WTA 1000 event of the year.
At the China Open, the Polish star didn't disappoint and progressed to the final, displaying a remarkable performance with wins over the 9th seed Caroline Garcia and the third seed Coco Gauff.
In the final, she convincingly defeated Liudmila Samsonova with a score of 6-2, 6-2, securing her first WTA 1000 title in 2023. This marked the sixth WTA 1000 title of her career and the 16th considering all her trophies.
Swiatek has previously emphasized the significance of her team in achieving good results and the importance of taking care of her mental health to stay focused on tennis. As a token of her appreciation, she gifted her psychologist a pair of Roger Federer's On sneakers for her birthday.
"Another year, another gift from @iga.swiatek," the 36-year-old psychologist Daria Abramowicz posted on her Instagram, showcasing the sneakers.
Swiatek's Next Step:
The Polish tennis sensation is now gearing up for her last challenge of the year at the 2023 WTA Finals, set to take place in Cancun from October 29 to November 7. She aims to achieve a better result than in 2022 when, despite entering as a strong favorite, she fell in the semifinals to Aryna Sabalenka.
With her title win in Shanghai, Swiatek has narrowed the gap with the Belarusian in the battle for the world No. 1 ranking. There's a 630-point difference between them in the WTA Race, and mathematically, Swiatek still has a chance to end the year at the top. However, to achieve this, she will need to win the Finals and hope that Sabalenka accumulates the fewest possible points.
