Linette's journey in this tournament was long. She played her first match on August 16th and played a total of 15 sets, of which she won 14. Gradually she defeated Dabrowski, Chang, Blinkova, Kanepi, Sasnovich, Muchova and Siniakova. In the final she will meet an opponent who played 3 matches less.
Camila Giorgi's journey to the final was a little easier. She defeated Gasparyan, Petkovic, Cornet and the first seeded Wang. She met her Polish rival only once, four years ago at a tournament in Poland. There she defeated her in 3 sets 2-1.
Former no.26 Giorgi does not experience the best season, when her record shows just 11-11. In this tournament, she will want to increase her confidence ahead of the upcoming US Open. Her opponent has a quite interesting record of 30-22, although mostly in lower-level tournaments.
After the match with Wang in semifinal, Giorgi spoke about her game and also the lack of matches she played this year.
"It’s weird, because I didn’t have so many matches this year," Giorgi said about her recent run of form, after missing three months of action in the spring due to a wrist injury. "But I think I was very consistent, and I was focusing on each point. Nothing else."
