Bianca Andreescu suffered a horrible injury in her round of 16 match at the 2023
Miami Open, and WTA legend
Chris Evert believes the Canadian has been hit with bad luck as she was just beginning to rediscover her form.
The 2019 US Open champion fell and injured her ankle during her match against Ekaterina Alexandrova, after which she was carted off the court on a wheelchair. Evert believes it was quite unfortunate, as Andreescu was approaching a high level of tennis again.
"This is so unfortunate. Bianca really getting her game back and playing so well…wishing her a speedy recovery!" Chris Evert wrote on Twitter.
Andreescu defeated two former Grand Slam champions and a Top-10 player in her first three matches in Miami, scoring wins against Emma Raducanu, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin. The 22-year old will now await test results on her injured ankle, with the hopes of beginning her clay-court season soon after Miami.
