Elina Svitolina dropped in rank due to her pregnancy but the Ukranian tennis player surged 316 places after capturing the Strasbourg trophy last week.
Svitolina has been out of tennis since early last year due to her pregnancy with the player giving birth later that year. She's been back to playing tennis for a few weeks making her way back in Charleston first. After that, she opted to play some smaller ITF events which allowed her to play herself into shape and it all came together nicely in Strasbourg last week.
Despite facing defeat a couple of times, Svitolina was able to win all of those matches booking the final against Blinkova. The final itself was never really close as she smashed her opponent from the start demonstrating a lot of passion in that match. It was her first trophy since giving birth as she joined the winners' circle among mothers on the WTA Tour. It was a big moment for her and her fans.
The WTA 250 event awards 280 points to the winners and having entered the event thanks to her protected ranking, Svitolina was able to earn a lot of points. She was ranked number 508 before the event but thanks to earning 280 points she found herself at number 192 on the following rankings. It's a huge jump of 316 places as she hopes to build up more points in the season and return to where she was before the pregnancy.
The comeback is fully underway and for now it's trending in the right direction. Let's see what the next weeks have in store for Svitolina.
