Paula Badosa and
Garbine Muguruza know each other well from the national team and from playing on the tour together and younger Badosa has a lot of respect for her compatriot.
Muguruza is a two-time grand slam champion so far having won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon 2018. She also played in the Australian Open final two years ago but lost it to Kenin. Her compatriot Badosa believes Muguruza has what it takes to win several grand slams during a year as she explained in a talk with ESPN Desportes:
"Winning all four Grand Slams is what everyone dreams of, maybe saying it puts pressure on me, but that's good, you have to dream big. She has a talent for doing it, she has shown it. She is a very competitive and eager person."
Muguruza defeated Badosa at the WTA Finals in the semifinals moving on to the finals. She ultimately won the event closing off a pretty good year for herself that was slightly derailed by an injury. Badosa looked at Muguruza as an inspiration as she was climbing her way up the rankings. She said:
"She is a player who has always been a mirror in which to look at
myself. She broke all the stereotypes. Such
a dynamic and aggressive game was not common in Spanish tennis. She
is tall, different, my favorite. She has a game that I loved when I was
growing up. I have always said that I would like to go where she has
arrived."
