China’s
Xinyu Wang has a supportive message for Emma
Raducanu for facing constant media pressure. Raducanu has remained in the
limelight ever since lifting the US Open back in 2021 at the age of just 18.
Since then, however, it has not been an easy ride for
Raducanu, who has struggled with fitness concerns and inconsistent form as well.
This year, Raducanu has featured in 32 matches and suffered defeats on 14
occasions. Her most recent defeat came at Wimbledon, where she lost to world
number one Aryna Sabalenka in the third round in straight sets with a score of
7-6, 6-4. Overall, Raducanu has featured in more than 10 competitions this year
but has yet to secure a spot in the semifinals. She appeared in three
quarterfinals, but on every occasion, she found herself on the wrong side of the
result.
After losing to Sabalenka, Raducanu stated that she was proud of her performance in the competition, despite the result. "It is very
difficult to take right now," said Raducanu back then. "It's
hard to take a loss like that but at the same time I've pushed Aryna, who is
number one and a great champion, so I have to be proud."
China’s Wang has recently spoken to Tennis 365, where she showed
some support to Raducanu. Wang stated that she can understand that Raducanu is
having a hard time dealing with so much pressure all the time. “I would imagine
it is difficult for her,” said Wang. “Yeah, she has won a Grand Slam, but there
is a lot of pressure that is now on her every time she plays. She won the US
Open in one of her first tournaments on the WTA Tour, so it was never going to
be easy after that. I think she is still growing as a player and also as a
person. She is still young. I would say the best thing is to keep yourself away
from the pressure and social media. It really doesn’t matter what they say on
social media.”
