Ex-coach of the former world number one Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, has highlighted what makes Russia’s young tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva so dangerous. The 17-year-old is already regarded as one for the future and has recently showcased her talent at the highest level.

Andreeva was recently featured in the Dubai Duty Freen Tennis Championship, where she lifted the title after beating Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1. On her way to the final, the youngster defeated world number two Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinal in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. She then got the better of one-time Grand Slam winner Elena Rybakina in the semifinal with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

An ex-coach of former world number one Serena, Stubbs, has been recently quoted in a report by Tennis 365, in which she highlighted what makes Andreeva so dangerous. She also highlighted the similarities between the 17-year-old and the former world number one in men’s tennis, Switzerland’s Roger Federer. Stubbs was of the opinion that Andreeva is a ‘psycho’ like the legendary tennis star was during his early playing days.

“Mirra Andreeva, to me, is similar [to Madison Keys] in a lot of ways because she was such a mental case on the court at times and I was like, ‘Is this kid ever going to reel this in?’ And now she looks like a completely different player,” she said. “I mean, it’s the same as Roger Federer when he was a junior. He was a psycho. And then he gets to play pro and he realised really quickly, ‘Oh, that doesn’t work. This works’. So that’s why everyone should be afraid of Mirra, and that’s why everyone should be afraid of Madison, because mentally, they are both switched on to what works now and what is successful.”
