Former player Monica Pugi had lauded praise on
Iga Swiatek and her mental strength following two impressive weeks in the Gulf where she reached back-to-back finals.
Swiatek will contest the Dubai final later today against Krejcikova and if she wins that final she'll win back-to-back Doha and Dubai trophies. It's an impressive achievement but also not something that she hasn't done before. She won several back-to-back events last year including the Sunshine double. Doing that takes a lot of mental strength and Puig praised Swiatek for being able to do so:
"I think they're doing a really good job of it, especially Iga. Wow, what can I say? Mentally, she's one of the strongest players out there."
She further added:
"To me, a lot of people would say, 'If you can't handle this pressure and what's going on right now, then you're not cut out for this.' That was the response. Nowadays, I feel like people are more understanding of the fact that we are going through all this pressure. It's more like, let's get help to see what you're going through and analyze it in a different way."
