Simona Halep wins 2022 Melbourne Summer Set 1

Simona Halep played a very solid match against Veronika Kudermetova winning 6-2 6-3 to win the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set.

It was a very good week for Simona Halep in Adelaide as she was able to win the trophy in Melbourne. Halep has been waiting a long time for a trophy and this week finally was able to provide her with one. Halep has played very good tennis and in this final pretty much controlled the match from start to finish. There was a minor slip-up at the start of the 2nd set but she was able to overcome that.

At the start of the match, Halep was a bit shaky needing time to find her rhythm. Her opponent was not much better as Kudermetova felt a bit nervous in the match despite taking an early 2-1 lead. She gave it right back and after that Halep was able to settle in nicely playing very good tennis moving forward. She cruised to a 6-2 1st set finish.

At the start of the 2nd set Kudermetova jumped out to a 2-0 lead but despite the lead, she still looked quite shaky. Halep patiently waited for her chance and it came not long after that with the score being tied at 2-2. After that Kudermetova started playing a bit better but it was still not enough. Patient as ever Halep kept applying the pressure and ultimately Kudermetova lost her own serve late in the set.

A great win for Halep who is looking very solid before the start of the Australian Open. It's an event where she usually plays well and the conditions suit her.
