World no. 3
Simona Halep came to Miami for his first tournament since the Australian Open loss to Serena Williams, hoping to overcome an injury and compete at her best.
Simona defeated Caroline Garcia in the second round from a set down, advancing into the third round in singles and testing her shoulder in doubles. The Romanian needed the medical timeout against Garcia and didn't play well in the doubles either, deciding to withdraw ahead of the third-round clash with Anastasija Sevastova.
"I'm very sorry I have to pull out of singles and doubles at the
Miami Open, but my injury doesn't let me play as I expected. I'm sad that I can't continue; I wanted to come here, give my best and play many matches, but unfortunately, I can't.
Hopefully, I will return stronger next year. I want to say a huge thank you to the Miami Open organizers and the WTA for all their efforts in staging this great event and making us safe," Simona Halep said.
