American tennis star Sloane Stephens kicked off her quest to capture a second title in Guadalajara on Monday, making quick work of Linda Fruhvirtova to advance to the second round.
Stephens required just 53 minutes to complete the 6-0 6-2 victory, completely dominating her Czech opponent from the start of the match. The 2017 US Open champion powered through the first set in just 18 minutes, making it one of the fastest sets on tour this season. Stephens power proved too much for the 17-year old, who won a paltry 20% of points behind her first serve in the opening serve.
Not wanting to bow out without a fight, Fruhvirtova was able to salvage her first game in the second set. However, a dialed-in Stephens refused to take her foot off the gas. The former World No.3 applied more pressure, obtaining two breaks before serving out the match in under an hour.
After capturing the Abierto Akron Zapopan title earlier this year, Stephens returns to Guadalajara with hopes of leaving with a second title. The World No.50 will face the winner between Belinda Bencic and Leylah Fernandez for a spot in the round of 16.
