World No.4 Elina Svitolina will be in quarterfinal action on Friday at the GSB Thailand Open in Hua Hin.
The top seed faces Japan's
Nao Hibino for a spot in the semifinals. Svitolina holds a 1-0 lead in career meetings against Hibino, having defeated her in Hong Kong in 2018. After
breezing through in the previous round, Svitolina could face tougher opposition from the eighth-seeded Japanese, who will be looking to claim the first top 10 win of her career.
Third-seeded
Qiang Wang goes up against Swiss qualifier Leonie Kung, who upset seventh seed Lin Zhu in the previous round. This is Kung's first WTA Tour-level event of the year but the 19-year old has been played fearlessly thus far.
Saisai Zheng of China faces Romanian Patricia Maria Tig for a spot in the semifinals. This will be Zheng's first quarterfinal of the season, and the fourth seed will be hoping to go one better by defeating the World No.105.
Poland's Magda Linette will meet 18-year old qualifier Xiyu Wang in the latter's first WTA-Tour level quarterfinal. Linette reached the semifinals in Hua Hin in 2019, so the fifth seed risks losing valuable points should she fall at this stage.
