Aryna Sabalenka has pulled out of Qatar Open which will ensure that Swiatek will spend a full 52 weeks as the number one player in the world.
Swiatek earned that ranking with an impressive run last year that included her winning two grand slams as well as several other big events like the Sunshine double among other things. She's held the number one spot easily throughout 2022 as no player came close to even touching her. When you win over 30 matches in a row that tends to happen.
Things could have changed this year as she defends so many points but the withdrawal of Sabalenka from the Qatar Open means that she will stay number one until at least April 2 which will ensure her stay as the top player for 52 weeks (1 year). There is a chance she gets dethroned sometime later in the year but for now, Swiatek is set to be the top player for a couple of more weeks.
