Iga Swiatek's match was interrupted twice last night due to rain but eventually, it finished with the victory of the Pole 4-6 6-2 6-2.
In some ways, the rain delay worked in favour of Swiatek who really complicated things for herself in the opponent set. She faced an inspired and solid Pegula yet also one to whom she gave so many chances. Up 4-2 in the first set, Swiatek dropped her serve to make it 4-3 instead of solidifying her lead.
Then she squandered a 40-15 lead in the next game to go up once again with Pegula making it 4-4 instead. The American player then grew confident and applied heavy pressure escaping with the set 6-4. A terrible finish by Swiatek as the rain stopped play after the first set.
They returned about two hours later and we saw a brand new very focused Iga. She took an early break for the 3-0 lead setting the tone right from the start. There was no doubt in her game anymore and she kept applying pressure taking the set 6-2. The same thing happened in the final set as well with Pegula standing no chance 2-6.
She will either play Collins or Vekic in the final today as that match was moved to today with Collins up 4-2 in the 3rd set of the match due to rain.
