Iga Swiatek has had an incredible 2022 year and this latest achievement just proves what kind of year she has had.
We've had several different rankings systems over the years with the current one being adopted in 2009. The number of total points increased which allowed players to set some new records. Any time you have the words record and tennis in the same sentence, there is a high chance you'll also see Serena Williams in the same sentence.
She was the first player to hit 11.000 rankings points since the adoption of the new rankings system and it came in 2013. Williams actually peaked with 13,615 which nobody came close to doing since then. This year, Swiatek did become only the second player to ever hit 11,000 points.
She will hit 11.000 rankings points after the WTA Finals as she earned enough by going to the semi-final of the event. If she wins she can hit 11,835 which would be the most since Williams. She won't come close to the peak that Serena hit but that just spoke how dominant she was in 2013.
