Tennis fans back Sakkari after criticism over celebrations: "I seriously have no idea why people are debating over this"

A row between tennis fans erupted on social media after Maria Sakkari celebrated her win over Danielle Collins in Guadalajara.

Sakkari is fighting for a spot in the WTA Finals and every match she wins is important for her. She celebrated a huge win over Collins with a couple of fist pumps but some tennis fans didn't like it thinking it was far too excessive.

Other tennis fans quickly chimed in pointing out that celebrations like this have been done before with Nadal known to celebrate similarly as well. We bring you some of the reactions by tennis fans defending the celebration.

"Rafael Nadal celebrates exactly like this after epic matches and nobody bats an eyelid. Why are people annoyed about this?" wrote one fan.

Another added: "That was cute and reminds me of Rafa’s celebrations."

A third added:

"I mean… what is problematic here ?She celebrates a hard-fought win, a match that keeps her alive in the Race, and after a few frustrating losses recently !I seriously have no idea why people are debating over this celebration."
